STORY / GAMEPLAY
The mission is simple: You have to infiltrate the government force's military materials storage facility and destroy it. At the same time, you must take the enemy leader prisoner. And that's it. Sounds easy huh? Well, it's not! And don't worry about a shortage of enemies, because the government forces are lead by famous guerrilla Colonel Bildegaarn. And what's worse, the leader at the front lines is the hand-to-hand combat expert, Lieutenant Colonel McBarr...and so on...! As on the original Metal Slug, the gameplay is very addictive. You control your commando and shoot constantly at a continuous stream of enemies in order to reach the end of each level. Along your way you'll find several P.O.Ws and by setting them free they will grant you with bonuses (health packs or more powerful weapons). You may also find and get inside an armored tank or a combat chopper that give more firepower and protection against the enemy troops! Your weaponry varies from Machine Gun, Shotgun to Rocket Launcher and a Bomb/Grenade. Overall, the game is a classic run 'n gun game, with fun gameplay, much like the original, which is widely known for its sense of humor!
GRAPHICS / SOUND
The visuals are nice and colorful including several detailed backdrops like forests, garrisoned cities, snowy mountain valleys, canyons and military bases. The game has a two-layered parallax scrolling and the sprites are well designed and animated, much like the original. But the screen scrolling is not as smooth as the arcade (expected I guess) As for its sound, Metal Slug: 1st Mission has some great in-game tunes and a few sound effects such as gun firing and explosions.
